Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour a 13x9x2 in. rectangular pan.
  3. Beat all ingredients on low speed, scraping bowl constantly for 30 seconds.
  4. Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, for 3 minutes.
  5. Pour into greased pans.
  6. Bake until a tooth pick inserted in the center comes out clean. (about 60-65 minutes). Let it cool, frost with Caramel Frosting.

Caramel Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  1. Heat butter in a saucepan until melted. Stir in brown sugar.
  2. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Turn the heat to low, and stir for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling, then remove from heat. Let cook to lukewarm.
  4. Gradually stir in powdered sugar.
  5. If the frosting becomes too stiff, stir in additional milk 1 teaspoon at a time.
  6. Frost your cake!
